COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Woodcrafters Facilitator Training is our flagship professional certification — three immersive days at our woodland HQ on the banks of the River Dart, supported by 3x live online sessions in the weeks before you arrive. It's designed for people who don't just want to carve — they want to use woodcraft as a genuine force for good in their community.
You'll learn how to deliver woodcraft for wellbeing sessions with real therapeutic value. How to hold space for groups with diverse backgrounds. How to support vulnerable adults and young people safely and confidently. And how to build a sustainable practice around the work — whether that's a social enterprise, a community hub, a school programme, or a social prescribing service.
This isn't a woodcraft course with a certificate at the end. It's a proper professional training, built on evidence, delivered in one of the most beautiful settings in Devon. The food is incredible, the community you'll build with your cohort is real, and the work you'll be inspired to lead in your own practice and community is inspiring!
THIS COURSE IS FOR YOU IF...
You're a craftsperson, occupational therapist, mental health practitioner, teacher, forest school leader, social prescribing link worker, or community organiser — and you want to bring the proven benefits of woodcraft into your professional practice.
You might be brand new to carving (if so we recommend going on our 2 day Teaching Woodcraft Skills Training in the lead up), or already teaching. Either way, this training will give you the framework, the skills, and the licence to deliver woodcraft for wellbeing sessions with confidence.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Across the four online sessions and three residential days you'll cover:
The soft skills of group facilitation, how to read a group, hold a safe, trauma informed space, and support people through the process of making
How to create a safe, welcoming environment for groups with varying support needs
Safe tool management for groups — knives, axes, and everything in between
How to design and deliver a full woodcraft for wellbeing session from start to finish
How to adapt your sessions for different ages, abilities, and settings
Impact measurement: how to evidence what your sessions achieve for funders and commissioners
The business of running a sustainable woodcraft practice — pricing, risk assessments, marketing, and getting paid
You'll leave with everything you need to launch your first session within 30 days of graduating
WHAT'S INCLUDED
Your course fee covers everything:
Four live online training sessions before the residential (all recorded for lifetime access if you miss one)
3 full days of hands-on residential training — 2 nights private cabin accommodation on site
All meals — locally sourced, organic, and genuinely exceptional (people talk about the food long after the course ends!)
Your Woodcrafters Practitioner Certificate
Your Woodcrafters Licence — permission to use our branding and evidence-backed framework in your own sessions
Impact reporting tools so you can measure and communicate what your sessions achieve
Business blueprints — pricing structures, risk assessments, and marketing templates
THE WOODCRAFTERS LICENCE
Graduating from this training gives you full Woodcrafters Licensed Practitioner status. That means you join a nationally recognised network of woodcraft for wellbeing practitioners — and you have permission to use our branding, our framework, and our evidence base in your own work.
That credibility matters. Whether you're applying for funding, pitching to a school, or building a referral pathway with a GP surgery — being a Woodcrafters Licensed Practitioner opens doors.
THINKING OF DOING BOTH COURSES?
Many people join us for the 2-day Teaching Woodcraft Skills course on 16–17 September and stay on for the Facilitator Training from the 18th. Five full days of training, one beautiful location, one extended community of makers and practitioners.
You can add an extra night on Thursday 17th for £70 (payable directly to Ambios) and roll straight through. Get in touch if you'd like to combine both — we'll make it simple.
DATES & DETAILS
Online Sessions: Wednesday 3rd, Monday 7th, Monday 14th, 28th September 2026 (6-7:30pm)
Residential: Friday 18 September 2026 -arrival from 9am Sunday 20 September 2026 — ends 4pm
Location: Ambios, Lower Sharpham Barton Farm, Ashprington, Devon TQ9 7DX
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Do I need carving experience? Not at all. This training is about learning to facilitate, not master carpentry. We'll build your practical skills alongside your facilitation skills from day one.
What if I miss an online session? Every online session is recorded and available for you to watch back. You won't miss anything.
Is the accommodation private? Yes. Your cabin is yours for the residential. Space to reflect, rest, and show up the next morning ready to go.
Can I pay in instalments? Yes. Select Squarespace Payments at checkout to spread the cost interest-free. Subsidised places are available — contact us if you'd like to discuss eligibility.
What's the difference between the 2-day course and the Facilitator Training? The 2-day Teaching Woodcraft Skills course teaches you the practical skills of woodcraft and how to teach them. The Facilitator Training goes deeper — it's about delivering woodcraft specifically for wellbeing, working with vulnerable groups, building a practice, and joining our licensed network. Many people do both.
