Running Workshops for Creatives - Wednesday 17th March 2027
RUNNING WORKSHOPS FOR CREATIVES
Plan a workshop that fills, runs smoothly and pays you properly, in one afternoon.
Led by Alex Finberg, maker, published author and founder of Woodcrafters CIC.
Wednesday 17th March 2027
09:30 - 12:30 UK time
Price: £35 (subsidised by grant funds from School of Social Entrepreneurs)
LIVE online & recorded (recordings sent out after the workshop to all who book on)
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
This workshop covers the fundamentals of how to get set up and run creative workshops. It starts with confidence building and learning some key skills to start your journey as a workshop facilitator.
Many creatives who already teach have run a session that went well on the day but still left them practically out of pocket, or opened up bookings and watched half the places sit unsold. The usual answer is to teach more: more dates, lower prices, another format…
This workshop takes one session and plans it properly. In two and a half hours you will design a workshop people want to book, work out what it really costs and how many bookings it needs, plan how to fill it, and set up what happens afterwards so that learners come back.
It is practical from start to finish. Each part teaches one idea, shows real case studies, and then gives you time to apply it to your own creative practice
Can't make it live? The full recording is shared with everyone who books.
WHAT WE COVER
1. Where you are now
What makes a good workshop, and a quick health check of your creative business, so you know where to focus first.
2. Designing a workshop people book
A one-line promise in your learners' words, and the five decisions that shape a session: level, length, group size, what people take home, and who it is for. You will sketch the shape of your session, from the welcome to the finish.
3. The numbers of a workshop
Every cost, including the hidden hours around the session, then your seat price, the number of bookings that pays for it, a minimum number and a decision day. How to price a taster, a day, a course and a private booking.
4. Filling the room
What your booking page must say, when to open booking, an eight-week plan to fill the room, partners who already have your learners, gift vouchers, and private and team bookings.
5. Teaching the day and your policies
The welcome, an early win, teaching a mixed group, safety, access and photographs, and a cancellation policy you can hold to, including weather and illness.
6. Making it happen: follow-up, next steps and a year of dates
A 48-hour follow-up, a next-step ladder that brings learners back, a year of dates, and a simple routine for before and after every session.
7. Bringing it together
Where running workshops meets the law (insurance, safety, safeguarding, food, booking terms and learners' details) and who to ask, plus your first steps for the week after.

QUESTIONS
I haven't run a workshop yet. Is this for me?
Yes. One of the two running examples is an illustrator planning her first workshop, and you can plan yours alongside her.
I teach music, writing or photography, not a craft. Will it work for me?
Yes. The design, the numbers and the filling plan are the same whatever you teach, and the examples are chosen to work for any creative.
Will you tell me what insurance I need, or what my terms should say?
No. We show you where the law applies and who to ask, such as an insurer, HSE, your council or Business Companion. We do not give legal, tax or financial advice.
What if I can't attend live?
Book anyway. You will receive the recording and all the resources, and you can work through the plan in your own time.
Is there any homework?
Allow about 30 minutes after the session to finish your plan and fill in the costing sheet.
