Creative Business Course - Starts 14th January 2027 (4 Workshops)
THE CREATIVE BUSINESS COURSE
Four practical workshops to help you market your work, price it properly, run workshops that fill, and find funding.
Led by Alex Finberg, maker, published author, grant writer and founder of Woodcrafters CIC.
Four live online workshops, all recorded
£125* for all four · save £15
*(subsidised by grant funds from School of Social Entrepreneurs)
ABOUT THE COURSE
Most creatives are very good at what they make, but were never shown how to run it as a business. Marketing, pricing, teaching and funding are usually learned the hard way, one mistake at a time, around keeping the wheels turning on everything else!
The Creative Business Course brings the four core workshops of the Woodcrafters Business School together. Each workshop takes one part of your business and turns it into a plan on a single page that you can start using the following day.
The course is practical from start to finish. Each workshop teaches the fundamentals in plain English, uses real examples from a potter and an illustrator, and gives you time to apply every step to your own work.
Can't make a session live? Every workshop is recorded and shared with everyone who books.
THE FOUR WORKSHOPS
1. Pricing and Income for Creatives
Thursday 14th January 2027 09:30 - 12:30
What your time is really worth, how to cost a piece or a place properly, prices you can stand behind, income from more than one place, a simple monthly money routine, and how to raise your prices.
You leave with: your Pricing and Income Plan
2. Marketing for Creatives
Thursday 21st January 2027 09:30 - 12:30
Who your work is really for, the customers and allies who can help you reach them, your marketing pillars and channels, a six-week campaign, and a weekly routine of about two hours that keeps it all going.
You leave with: your Marketing Plan
3. Running Workshops for Creatives
Thursday 28th January 2027 09:30 - 12:30
Designing a workshop people book, the numbers that make it pay, filling the room, teaching the day, a cancellation policy you can hold to, and turning one workshop into a teaching business.
You leave with: your Workshop Plan
4. Grant Funding for Creatives
Thursday 4th February 2027 09:30 - 12:30
Which funder fits your work, turning an idea into a clear project, writing answers the way assessors read them, a budget that pays you fairly, a timeline, and planning a year of funding.
You leave with: your Grant Funding Plan
WHAT YOU GET
• Four live workshops, with time for your questions in each
• Full recordings of all four, to watch again or catch up
• Four workbooks (PDF), where you write your plans as we go
• Four easy-read training manuals (PDF), to keep and come back to
• Four spreadsheets that do the sums for you: a marketing plan with a people map, a pricing and income sheet, a workshop costing sheet, and a project budget and timeline
• Four plans on a page, one for each part of your business
WHO IT'S FOR
• Potters, illustrators, textile artists, jewellers, photographers, woodworkers, printmakers, musicians who teach, and any other creative who wants to earn from their work
• People selling products, running classes, taking commissions, or doing all three
• Creatives starting out, and those who have been selling for years and want firmer foundations
• Anyone who finds the business side uncomfortable, overwhelming or hard to keep up
No business experience is needed, and you do not need to enjoy selling.

PRACTICAL DETAILS

• Resources: Workbooks, training manuals and spreadsheets shared after each session
• Price: £125 for all four workshops (£140 if booked separately)
QUESTIONS
Do I need to do the workshops in order?
No. Each workshop stands on its own. The order above works well, because your marketing plan helps you price, and your prices help you plan workshops and budgets, but you can start wherever you need most.
Can I book just one workshop?
Yes. Each workshop can be booked on its own for £35. The full course saves you £15 and gives you all four plans.
Is this only for craftspeople?
No. The fundamentals are the same whatever you make or teach, and the examples are chosen to work for any creative.
What if I miss a session?
You will receive the recording and all the resources, and you can work through the plan in your own time.
How much time will it take outside the sessions?
Allow about 30 minutes after each workshop to finish your plan. After that, the work is putting it into practice.
What comes after the course?
Each workshop leads into a deeper, action-based course in the Woodcrafters Business School, available online, with live cohorts for those who want support while they put it into practice.
